Save Money & Energy
Save Money & Energy

Saving energy and money go hand-in-hand. We can all contribute to reducing Austin’s energy demand by making simple lifestyle changes and energy-efficient home improvements. When demand decreases, we all save. Austin Energy is committed to helping our customers achieve the greatest savings possible.

Simple energy-saving tasks can earn you cash.

Load Cooperative is a voluntary program for demand rate commercial customers who can reduce energy use during peak demand periods. Call 512-482-5346 or email Customer Energy Solutions to become a participant.

If your business can reduce electricity use during peak periods, become a Load Cooperative volunteer. You may be eligible to earn money based on how much energy you save.

We give volunteers a one-hour notice before each use reduction, or curtailment, event. Austin Energy will deliver event start and stop times to you via email, text message, or both, depending on your preference.

Curtailment events are held for up to 3-hour intervals between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. from June through September (excluding weekends and holidays). There are approximately 15 curtailment events in the four-month season.

Simple participation strategies include:

  • Turning off non-essential lighting, signage, and decorations
  • Precooling or cycling refrigeration and HVAC systems
  • Delaying non-essential production

After each event, Austin Energy remotely reads your meter to determine incentive payments based on performance.

Load Cooperative customers also have free access to our web-based Load Profiler. You can use Load Profiler to monitor energy use at all of your business locations anytime. Load Profiler allows you to generate total energy usage reports and monitor:

  • Peak demand
  • Power factor
  • Load factor
  • Weekday versus weekend activity
  • Daily and historical usage

PACE Financing Available

Austin Energy provides various opportunities for our customers to purchase energy efficient technologies. Many of these reduce energy consumption and enhance comfort and indoor air quality for your customers. PACE is an effective financing approach. Travis and Williamson County PACE programs enable owners of non-profit, commercial, and industrial properties to obtain low-cost, long-term financing for water and energy efficiency improvements and solar generation retrofits.

Private sector lenders finance qualified improvements and property owners voluntarily agree to contractual assessments imposed on the property. PACE improvements generate positive cash flow with no out-of-pocket cost to the property owner. If the property is sold before the full amount is repaid, the repayment obligation automatically transfers to the next owner. PACE assessments complement Austin Energy incentive programs.

As a Load Cooperative volunteer, you can earn $1.45 per kWh you save during each curtailment event.

Austin Energy remotely reads your meter after each event to determine how much energy you saved.

You can request a check or credit to a future monthly bill. Incentive payments are made at the end of the season. You must exceed $100 to be eligible for payment.

Load Cooperative customers will also have basic-level access to the Web-based Load Profiler program free of charge year-round.
